Another great mural
Kevin and Ruth started with the cabbages and then added some cats to honour their friends at home and then the rabbit to create some magical touches. Jasnine did the work. Soulpepper and Hot Docs
A new documentary series bringing films from around the world. The first screening is Parade: Queer acts of love and resistance. “It captures a wide range of pivotal moments that sparked Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ movement and its progress, and honours the activists and elders whose resistance led to the rights we have today. Rarely seen archival footage and first-person accounts”. At Soulpepper’s Garland Theatre (50 Tank House Lane), Tuesday October 12 at 7 pm, free. Click here for your tickets.
Raise the Curtain for Kids!
The Colony
Cree artist Kent Monkman created this playful reminder of the creatures who shaped the Toronto waterfront. It was unveiled on the Lassonde Art Trail in Biidaasige Park in early October.
Pumpkin patch community event
Celebrate Fall with the Distillery’s family-friendly pumpkin patch event. Meet at the heritage truck (1 Trinity Street) and pick out your perfect pumpkin. Thursday October 15, 9:30 to 11:30 am.
Rose’s ghost stories
Toronto Dance Theatre’s dancers along with guest artists will perform three shows each night on October 29, 30 and 31 - at 7, 8:15 and 9:30 pm. It all happens in the historic Winchester Theatre (80 Winchester). It’ll be “an immersive haunted house where dance, live music, theatrical storytelling and traditional ghost lore come together…” A one-of-a-kind fundraiser. Fall garden clean-ups
Sean at Forgotten Lawns & Gardens (271 Carlton) has been handling garden and construction projects in Cabbagetown for the past 27 years. He’s ready now to clean your yards and homes and prepare everything for the winter. This includes pruning, raking, soil prep and more. Blair’s Run update
By Thursday morning, $73,100 was raised to support the BGCTO Toronto Kiwanis/Cabbagetown Youth Centre. Donations are still open. There’s a link on the Blair’s Run website where you can see the race results and the donors list.
Cabbagetown Farmers Market - new times
Three weeks left in the season. Tuesday from 2:30 to 6:30 pm in Riverdale Park West (Sumach and Winchester). This is the last market day for Rogue Farms, Willibald Distillery and Little Beasts Brewing. Brian Scian is singing. Curran Stikuts campaign
Curran Stikuts has earned a big endorsement from Kristyn Wong-Tam. “I wholeheartedly endorse Curran Stikuts, an energetic new candidate who won the coveted Labour Council endorsement and has the courage to take big swings at the solutions we need. He is principled and responsive.” George Smitherman, along with members of labour unions, the Liberal party and the NDP are also supporting him. His website gives plenty of details about his plans for the Ward.

Candidates’ debates
In Regent Park, meet the candidates at 5 pm on October 15 in the Regent Park Community Centre (402 Shuter). The Bridge and the TMU journalism school sponsored a debate on Wednesday October 7. It’s available on YouTube - click here.
Election dates
Advance polls are now open until Sunday October 11, 9 am to 7 pm daily. Election day is Monday October 26 from 10 am to 8 pm. Check out your registration on the voters’ list - click here and go to Voter’s Information. If you need to add your name or make changes, the deadline for online info is 7 pm on Sunday October 11. You can also add your name in person at the polling station at the advance poll or election day.

The City of Toronto has an official list of candidates in our Ward. It includes contact info where available. It lists the people running for offices for Mayor, Council and the various school boards.

Koh Rawi has opened at 243 Carlton Street and it’s celebrating with a 20% discount on your orders until October 30. It was previously part of the Thai Room chain and is now independently operated by Shaminder and Ravirag. They’ve widened their menu to include more choices with green curry, pad see ew and Khao soi as favourites. They provide event catering as well as dine-in and home delivery. Distillery’s Fall music series
Starting on Saturday October 10 at 2 pm and running all weekend to Monday at 2 pm. On Saturday, it’s Jesse Karwat. On Sunday, Naro and Layton play acoustic guitar duos. On Monday, Eunice Keitan with Kevin Howley performs neo-pop with Asian influences. On the Trinity stage.

Whiskey Jack
Duncan Fremlin and his pals are singing in Irondale Ontario at 2 pm on Saturday October 10 at the Irondale Historic Church (1019 Elm Street). Admission is by donation and the proceeds go to keep the Church open. And they’re in Toronto at the Inter Steer (357 Roncesvalles) On Satuday October 24 at 5 pm.
Line dancing
The final free dancing session in the Distillery happens on Friday at 6 pm. It’s for beginners.
