More
travelling Tee’s
Judy
and Charlie were in Agra to visit the Taj Mahal last November. They wore their Cabbagetown Tees and
brought a flag but they were told that it is forbidden to display flags
here. Their photo is remarkably
crisp – the fog (or smog) that often surrounds this site didn’t appear during
their photo op. If you’re planning
a trip, take along a local
souvenir and we’ll run your pictures when you return.

Barbeque
season is coming
This
little beauty has just arrived from Home Hardware (485 Parliament). The staff there were a terrific help
when we poked around trying to decide which model would be best. Our last one
should go to the great BBQ Museum – it lasted fifteen years until the entire
bottom fell out during a January cook-out. In our test run with a couple of ribeye steaks, our new one
showed lots of promise.
RESTAURANT & PUBS
Porter`s
footloose fundraiser
Porter
is a familiar figure in Cabbagetown.
She hosts Open Mic with Porter at The Local GEST (424 Parliament). She
recently injured her foot badly and needs time for it to heal. Of course, in her line of work, she has
to work to be paid and she`s had to reduce her schedule. So Tiffany at The Local GEST is holding
a fundraiser to help her during her troubles. It`s on Saturday March 28 at 8 pm. There`ll be live music, a 50/50 draw and lots of raffle
prizes.
Whiskey
Jack on Saturday
Duncan
Fremlin and his friends will be playing at the Cadillac Lounge (1296 Queen W)
at 4 pm on Saturday March 28. Jen
Cook has joined the band and this is her second complete concert with them.
Paintbox
at the Green Living Show
The
Paintbox Bistro (555 Dundas E) will be a restaurant vendor at the Green Living
Show on the weekend, March 27 to 29, Metro Toronto Convention Centre (255 Front
St W). Chef Chris Klugman
will feature Arancini rice balls with rutabaga spaghetti and a trio of Paintbox
hot sauces. Drop by the Paintbox
on Thursday March 26 and Friday morning March 27 and pick up free tickets for
the show – a $15 value.
Café
Olya
The
café will be closed next week as Olyana and Mike make some changes. They plan to shift their emphasis away
from an espresso bar and toward a bakeshop. They hope to offer more baked goods, more often. Best wishes for the reno’s. 540 Parliament
Jeff
Barnes returns
The
Local GEST’s farm
The
Local’s Farm is part of the Elm Grove Collective located just south of Sutton
Ontario. They have an acre of land
where they’re growing mixed vegetables that are used in the pub. Over the summer, their produce will be
sold at the Regent Park Farmer’s Market and on the patio at the pub. In the summer, volunteers and interns
will be welcome to visit the Farm and enjoy working on it – and going home with
fresh vegetables.
A
Wine Wednesday reminder
Each
week on Wednesday, F’Amelia (12 Amelia) offers great wines at a great
price. Any bottle that’s regularly
priced over $100 is available at 50% off.
That’s
a leprechaun
Regan
at The Irv (195 Carlton) drew rave reviews on Facebook when his photo was
posted. It looks like a successful
St Paddy’s Day for him. The Irv
was packed.
Gilead’s
last week
The
Gilead Café & Wine Bar (4 Gilead Place) will close next week on March
31. Fans of Jamie Kennedy’s
cuisine will regret its loss. Mr
Kennedy will continue to operate Jamie Kennedy Kitchens.
