2026 Garden Tour
Hidden Gardens & Private Spaces takes place from 10 am to 3 pm on Sunday June 7. This year, nine private properties and four community gardens will be highlighted. Expert gardeners will be stationed throughout to talk about the gardens and answer your questions. Two new features are available at the garden tour. Both happen at the Tour Booth (Sumach and Winchester). There’ll be a native plant sale organized by Native Plants from Claremont - $5 per pot. And there’s a raffle for a free tree or shrub through the Neighbourhood Planting Project. 10 am to 3 pm on Sunday June 7.

It’s a self-guided tour and your ticket has a map showing the garden locations. If you bought your ticket online, please go to 89 Winchester on Sunday. It’s open from 9 am. Bring your confirmation email and exchange it for a ticket. Shop in person at Akasha Art (204D Carlton), Epicure (473 Parliament), Fairway Market (520 Parliament), Jay’s Garden Centre (360 Gerrard E), Kendall & Co (512 Parliament) and at Davenport Garden Centre (368 Davenport). They’re for sale at $25.

Jets at Billy Bishop
Evan Solomon, our MP, has commented in an email on the expansion at the airport to include jet services. “Right now, there is no formal proposal before the federal government to consider. What I am hearing from residents is that they want facts, transparency, and a clear understanding of what any future expansion could mean for our city. That includes potential impacts on waterfront neighbourhoods, housing development, transportation planning, the environment, noise, greenspace, and community amenities. … Any future changes to the airport would require agreement among the parties involved. … There are many steps ahead before any decisions are made. The process matters, and Torontonians will be a part of it. Any decisions about Billy Bishop's future will be made in the best interests of our city.”

Unfinished Arch
Construction on this sculpture by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer is now complete. It’s located in Sherbourne Common at the foot of Sherbourne Street on the waterfront. It stands 9 metres tall and bends forward over 14 meters from its base. It weighs over 25,000 pounds and its base is buried 50 feet into the ground. The artist says that the work is finished whenever people touch it. Waterfront Toronto says, “Visitors are invited to complete the arch by touching its truncated, floating edge, triggering an illumination that brings it to life.” For more details, click here.
Road construction
The people in Winchester Park must regularly feel trapped by the construction all around them. Ontario Street above Carlton is still a gravel patch. Wellesley Street to the north is ripped up. A commercial job on Parliament blocked the street for several days as traffic backed up. For some reason, no one in the City of Toronto has figured out the impact of all of this on the people who live here.

Events in the Distillery
Free family movies are screening on the weekend. On Saturday, it’s “Flushed Away” and on Sunday, “The Croods”. Both shows start at 11 am on the Trinity Stage (south end of Trinity Street). On Thursday, Soulpepper (50 Tank House Lane) is showing “Really Happy Someday” at 7 pm. The Spring Live Music Series continues on Saturday with the Mike Ferfolia Trio and on Sunday with River North Duo - both start at 2 pm on the Trinity Stage.
Yard sale - new date
Weather worries have provoked a change of dates - now happening on Saturday June 13. Residents at The Sumach by Chartwell (146 Sumach) are organizing a yard sale. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Community Music Schools of Toronto, Regent Park. Saturday June 13, 10 am to 2 pm.
Open air sketching
Artists with all skill levels are welcome. “Capture the neighbourhood’s beautiful Victorian homes, tree-lined streets, laneways, and everyday moments through sketching.” Facilitated by Urban Sketchers Toronto. A new rotisserie restaurant
The owners of the now-closed Kramer’s Bar & Grill purchased the building that was home to Alice’s Place (554 Parliament). They plan to open Blue Horse Rotisserie. According to blogTO, it’ll be “Something casual, warm, and a little more everyday, a place where people could drop in for a simple, well-made meal.
