2026 Garden Tour
Hidden Gardens & Private Spaces takes place from 10 am to 3 pm on Sunday June 7. This year, nine private properties and four community gardens will be highlighted. Expert gardeners will be stationed at each one to talk about the gardens and answer your questions. Two new features are available at the garden tour. Both happen at the Tour Booth (Sumach and Winchester). There’ll be a native plant sale organized by Native Plants from Claremont - $5 per pot. And there’s a raffle for a free tree or shrub through the Neighbourhood Planting Project. 10 am to 3 pm on Sunday June 7.
Garden tour tickets
It’s a self-guided tour and your ticket has a map showing the garden locations. They’re for sale at $25. You can buy your tickets online here. Or shop in person from Saturday afternoon at Akasha Art (204D Carlton), Epicure (473 Parliament), Fairway Market (520 Parliament), Jay’s Garden Centre (360 Gerrard E), Kendall & Co (512 Parliament) and at Davenport Garden Centre (368 Davenport).
Another awful accident
A woman was struck and killed by a cement truck just after noon on Friday May 22 at Gerrard and Parliament. She was apparently crossing Parliament heading east. The traffic light turned green for the truck and it started moving, hitting her in the north crosswalk. She had died when the police arrived. The driver stayed at the accident scene. Murder in Cabbagetown South
On Saturday, a man was found in a private garage near Dundas and Sherbourne suffering obvious signs of a trauma. Police declared him deceased. By Monday, Boubacar Dembele, 30 years old from Toronto, was arrested and charged with second degree murder. The victim was not identified. He was wearing a silver heart shaped pendant with wings and a clear stone and a black jacket with the words “Vision Youth Leaders Program”. Canary District sidewalk sale
The wide sidewalks along Front Street are a great place for a sidewalk sale. On Saturday May 30 from 11 am to 3 pm, forty tables spread out over three blocks will be there with all sorts of goodies - gently used vintage and new clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry, baby items, kids’ toys, books, cookware, household items, handmade items, paintings, purses, crafts, furniture and textiles. Repair Cafe
The Repair Cafe will be at the Canary sidewalk sale. Volunteers will show you how to fix your broken stuff - jewellery, clothing, books and paper goods. Saturday May 30 from 11 am to 3 pm, Front Street Promenade between Cooperage and Bayview.

Dixon Hall’s annual gala offers creative food and beverages in a glittering evening. Forgotten Lawns & Gardens

Wellesley Street construction
During this construction project, traffic flow will be reduced to one lane, westbound only. The bike lanes and the eastbound traffic lanes have been removed. Construction work occurs in two groups - between Parliament and Ontario and between Sherbourne and Jarvis from mid-May to mid-December. During the construction, the 94 Wellesley bus running east on Wellesley will detour at Jarvis south to Carlton, then east to Parliament and north to the Castle Frank subway.
Wisteria season
Heather has grown this striking wisteria on the side of her house at Winchester and Rose since 1997. It first bloomed in 2007 but was damaged later by the 2013 ice storms. It appeared to have died but slowly recovered and now it blooms annually. Congrats Heather for a lovely garden.
