IN THE MEDIA
Controversy over Louis March Parkette
The CBC has reported on this neighbourhood controversy. The tiny park at Sumach and Shuter has been revitalized and given a new name, Louis March Parkette, in honour of an anti-gun advocate. Although there has been widespread approval of the honour bestowed on the late Mr March, local Trefann Court residents dispute the process used to select the name. Councillor Chris Moise who introduced the naming motion at City Council disagrees. He points to an online petition that gathered 800 names including 80 local people. The CBC quotes him saying, “The issue is closed. It went through Council.” (Photo: Mike Smee/CBC)
Fred Kielburger
Mr Kielburger died on Saturday May 24 at the age of 84. He was the father of Marc and Craig, the co-founders of Free the Children. In 2019, Canadian Living published Brenda Spiering’s article that detailed the growth of the We Charity and the very substantial contribution of the parents to the enterprise. Click here to read it.
