502 to 508 Parliament
Andre Bermon has written a detailed article in The Bridge about the missteps in the renovation of these four properties. Dixon Hall has been supervising the project and will take over its operations once the job is finished. Original plans called for an 18-month construction period. Over four years later, it’s not finished. The budget has ballooned from the original $6 million by an extra $7.8 million. At this time, only three of the four addresses appear close to completion. The developer, Streetwise Capital Partners, has submitted a revised plan for the development at the dance theatre on Parliament (509 Parliament). It calls for a ten-storey building with 60 residential units and retail at the ground floor. As before, the heritage facade will be retained. Parliament Street development
With the renewed proposal for a medium-rise building at 509 Parliament, the Cabbagetown Preservation Association has responded. Their view focuses on the whole street. They recommend that a plan to preserve heritage buildings is needed along with a refreshed streetscape and a plan to manage densification. They have a detailed list of the heritage properties that they want preserved. Click here to read more.
