Road repairs and water service
A complete road reconstruction is starting soon for the roads and sidewalks on Carlton between Parliament and Sumach and on Seaton between Shuter and Carlton. The reconstruction will include replacement of the City-owned lead pipes. Homeowners will have a chance to upgrade the pipes on their property going into their houses. The starting date on Carlton is now scheduled for March and they will continue until late summer. On Seaton, it’s still listed as mid-February to late November.
Congrats Tanya
On February 22, Tanya at F’Amelia (12 Amelia) joined the Coldest Night of the Year - a walk in support of food banks and agencies across the city. She set $4,000 as her target and she surpassed her goal - over $5,000 has been collected. The group has almost reached its target and they're still fundraising until the end of March. Cycle Solutions (444 Parliament) turns 25 on Thursday March 6. That’s a remarkable achievement. They’ve survived a lot of upheavals and come through it all intact.
Katrina Couture

A new call for Smartphone Shorts
The Cabbagetown Short Film Festival has a new $800 award for the best short filmed with a smartphone. Filmmakers are asked to submit a pitch package by April 1 2025. The winner will receive $400 for pre-production and then $400 more upon delivery, by August 1 2025, It’ll be screened at the 34th annual film festival on Wednesday September 3 at the Winchester Street Theatre. Cabbagetown Art & Crafts
The big art show in Riverdale Park West has opened applications for artists for the 2025 show. The event happens on September 5, 6 and 7. Submissions are welcome until the end of April - the early bird submission fee is $40 and the final fee is $50. Click here to find out more and to get an application form.

Cabbagetown Farmers’ Market
The deadline for applications for vendor spaces at the 2025 Farmers’ Market is coming soon. Please reply by February 28. Click here to get the online form and to read the rules for the space.
Allan Gardens Farmers’ Market
Vendors this week include Murray’s Farm, Oakridge, Loco Fields, Link Haus and St John’s Bakery. Specialty vendors include Lex’s Pantry, Magic Oven and Spirited Tarts. The Friends of Allan Gardens will also have a plant sale. Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm at the Children’s Conservatory (150 Gerrard E).
CPA Board members needed
The Cabbagetown Preservation Association is recruiting new Board members. If you’re interested in community and heritage activities, then this is an ideal project for you. The CPA is a worthwhile group doing important community events. For more info, click here.
Outdoor rinks - latest news
On Thursday February 27, all three outdoor rinks are open - Riverdale Park East (550 Broadview), Sherbourne Common (5 Lower Sherbourne) and Regent Park (480 Shuter). Moss Park Arena (140 Sherbourne) has an indoor rink that’s open despite the weather outside. Check out the City’s map to learn the rinks’ status before you go.
Our flag on the open sea
Jocelyn and Keith sailed on the Wind Surf from Barcelona Spain to Lisbon Portugal in November. They stopped in Cadiz and a very friendly gentleman snapped their picture with our flag. He enjoyed, they report, hearing about Cabbagetown.

Say “No” to the 51st State
Whiskey Jack will perform twenty songs by Stompin’ Tom Connors including his controversial song, Believe in Your Country. The Cameron House (408 Queen W) at 6 pm on Friday February 28. The band will feature Stompin’ Tom’s fiddler Billy MacInnis and his banjo player Duncan Fremlin.

The Aviary closes
The Aviary and Longslice Brewery (484 Front E) closed its doors last Sunday February 23. On Instagram, they posted,”The past seven years have been an incredible journey, and we are deeply grateful for the love and support from this amazing community.”
Zakkushi
Zakkushi (193 Carlton) will be closed for maintenance from March 2 to 6. It will reopen at 5:30 pm on Friday March 7.
