Councillor Troisi’s environment day happens on Saturday July 21 from 10 am to 2 pm in Lower Sherbourne Park (Frederick St south of the Esplanade). Bring your hazardous wastes, old paint cans, electronics, TVs, computer equipment, fluorescent light bulbs, old medications and more. You can also bring stuff that you feel can be reused - sporting goods, eye glasses, books, small household items, good used clothing and non-perishable food - and bring more stuff that can be donated to schools.

Local transportation projects
Councillor Troisi’s office has released the schedule of forthcoming road projects planned by the City of Toronto in our area. They include a study of the stop lights at Carlton and Parliament, creation of a commercial loading zone on Parliament south of Spruce, a delay to 2020 for repaving Carlton east of Parliament, future speed bumps on Metcalfe and a variety of smaller local changes to signage, bike lanes, and laneways. It’s all listed online here.
So - what’s she doing?
Lucy Troisi has served since last summer as an appointed Councillor in Ward 28, filling the job done by our late Councillor Pam McConnell. She’s proven to be a very hard working representative.
But - she’s kept very quiet about her plans for a possible election run for herself. She now has only a week to announce her intentions. The deadline for nominations is Friday July 27. Political observers in Ward 21 and Ward 23 are all watching to see whether she plans to run and where.

He has a Masters degree in International Arts Management. In the theatre, he’s directed 50 productions ranging from contemporary Canadian to classical plays. Cabbagetown BIA’s movie in the park
Congrats to the BIA for a fine job organizing this year’s movie night in Riverdale Park. The crowd was impressive. The pre-movie warm-ups included jazz by Double A and snacks by the Grinning Face, Yonge Street Mission and Freshed Right Salad & Juice Bar. The movie was Fantastic Mr Fox. The weather, of course, was perfect.

Ted Hamer (left) and Michael Cavanaugh are making good progress on the new mural on the wall facing Zakkushi on Carlton (195 Carlton). August 5 is their target finishing date.

BUSINESS NEWS
Beat The Heat
Hot sunny days are here and it’s time to think about the windows in your home. Drapery and shades are more than simply decorative:
They reduce your energy bill during summer and winter by up to 30% which quickly recoups the costs of window coverings.
They protect your furniture, rugs, art and wallpaper by minimizing the harmful effects of the sun.
They improve privacy and security so you and your family can enjoy your home in peace and get a longer, restful slumber.
Roller shades cost the least comparatively, followed by drapes, with Roman blinds being the most premium. Find all these solutions at Kendall & Co (514 Parliament) along with a wide array of fabrics, trims, valances, hardware and motorization upgrades.
